Code of Conduct

It is the policy of City Ballet Raleigh to maintain a positive and productive learning environment for all students and staff. As part of their training, students are expected to behave in a responsible and disciplined manner and to adhere to the rules and regulations below.

City Ballet Raleigh strives to ensure that all rules are clear and reasonable, and students are expected to observe the established Code of Conduct. The School reserves the right to suspend or dismiss any student whose conduct or attitude is found to be unsatisfactory.

City Ballet Raleigh emphasizes discipline, focus, a positive attitude and proper classroom etiquette.

  • Students are expected to arrive on-time, warmed-up and in appropriate attire before class or rehearsals begin.
  • Students are to refrain from talking while in class.
  • Students are prohibited from hanging on barres.
  • If a student is late to class, they will be permitted to join class at the discretion of the teacher.
  • If a student needs to leave class early, they must notify their teacher before the beginning of class.
  • Students are encouraged to keep their bags with them at all times and to keep them tidy and organized in the studio.
  • Students are expected to set a good example which includes language and conversation content within the classroom, on the premises of City Ballet Raleigh (including the lobby and restrooms), and while representing City Ballet Raleigh in the community.
  • Students are asked to wear the appropriate dance attire as outlined here on City Ballet Raleigh’s website.
  • No gum, candy or food is allowed in the studios; water bottles only.

Students and staff participating in the following actions/activities will be subject to disciplinary action:

  • Physical intimidation or injury
  • Theft
  • Verbal abuse
  • Misbehavior
  • Sexual harassment
  • Possession or under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol
  • Smoking: City Ballet Raleigh is a non-smoking facility.
  • Firearms or weapons of any kind
  • Self-destructive behavior
  • Willful destruction or misuse of studio or another person’s property

Non-Discrimination Policy

City Ballet Raleigh admits students of any race, color, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin in administration of its education policies, admissions policies, scholarship programs or any other programs.
